TFN Herts Fundraising Success!

TFN Herts raised over £13,000 for four outstanding local charities at its second ‘Dragon’s Den’ style event on Thursday 8th June, and we at ActOne Artsbase were lucky enough to be a part of it!

Generously hosted at the spectacular Rothamsted Conference Centre in Harpenden, the event built on a successful launch in St Albans last September to expand across the county.

As the nation cast their votes, the guests at TFN Herts also had tough decisions to make, because all four pitches from local charities CHIPS, Resolve, The Gifts and ActOne ArtsBase were so moving and impressive (although many supported more than one cause).  More than 80 local residents and businesses attended, to watch the charities pitch for funding, ask questions, and generously pledge their support in a live crowdfunding session.

Local resident Richard Sved organised the event with a group of local volunteers, national charity The Funding Network, and generous support from local businesses Debenhams Ottaway, Grant Thornton, Kingston Smith and The Rothamsted Conference Centre.

Commenting on the event, Richard Sved said: “I felt very emotional to have delivered another successful event, with 4 top-notch pitches and a whole lot of love and generosity in the room.  We’re delighted to have expanded the reach of TFN across Hertfordshire, and are already looking forward to helping more great causes at our next event.”

Jennie, one of the guests, described it as “An incredible event.  In one evening, Herts TFN introduced me to four local organisations making positive social change and the amazing people behind them.  I can’t wait to see what they go on to achieve next.”

ActOne ArtsBase were also thrilled with the event, saying: “We were so privileged to be part of such a wonderful evening.  In current times where it’s so hard for small charities to survive, let alone develop, this event was such a boost to us all.”

Any post-event donations are welcomed by the four charities via the main Funding Network website: https://live.protectedpayments.net/pm3API/asp/PMWeb1?charityRef=1088315&campaignRef=116

Showcase success brings more to the Tour

After a fantastic performance at our company Showcase last Sunday we are back to work on our tour piece and workshops. Now we maybe tired but that doesn’t stop us! We’re still buzzing from the success of the weekend and turning that postive energy into something truly amazing!

The last few weeks have focussed on our workshops and getting to really know our characters, but now we are begining to get to grips with the main piece as well. And it’s shaping up beautifully, our characters are leading us and we are leading them to create some very special moments indeed.

Graduate Company – A Week of Challenge

Tour Week 3

This week brought many challenges, from choreographer, from ourselves and challenges from each other!

One of the best things about this tour is being given the opportunity to challenge perceptions of disabled dancers and show people what is possible, our limitations to our creativity are only what we allow them to be.

As a group it was a great session and time to really reflect on the last few weeks work,  and where we can push things and ourselves further. We worked on both the performance piece and our workshops this  and they’re are really taking shape, even though we totally took ourselves to our limits this week!

There ain’t no stoppin’ us Lindy hoppin’

Tour Week 2

After last weeks excitment you might begin to wonder if this week was quieter, but no not at all! Now that the group are really begining to get going with the ideas the engery is rising even more!

This week was more about getting to enjoy an introduction to the style of music and beats we will be building our whole tour around – Lindy Hop! Not only does the music have such an amazing energy (perfect for our group and the workshops – a performance style they truly love) but it’s steeped in History too! Such a fantasticly inspiring genre to work with, and wow did this week show us what is possible!

Graduate Company – The Fun Begins!

Tour Week 1

After many weeks of planning and thought the team are finally all together and things are looking very exciting!

This week not only brought the meeting of our creatives who now have a full plan in place to get this show on the road! But also brought our Choreographer, Dance Leads and Graduate Dancers together to get the real hard work done! And watching the work come together is something truly special!

The photos taken today only show you a glimpse of the energy and excitment in the room, what a fanatasticly amazing tour this promises to be!
